A.G Chiththrani is living at Nelsanpura village in Town and Gravest divisional secretariat, Trincomalee district. She is 60
years old. She is a mother of five. Her husband has disappeared while he was
engaging with fishing industry on 3rd of April in 1991. She had no
any information about her husband until now.
She had faced many difficulties
with her four children without any way to survive after diapering her
husband. However, she had attempted to
feed her children by selling stream hoppers.
She had used to a traditional
machine for making stream hoppers
because of that she was unable to make more than three stream hoppers at one time. She had spent two hours to make stream hoppers
by which used three KG of flour. Because of that, she had no opportunity to
develop her business.
In the meanwhile, she was
concerned and selected as a beneficiary of the program, which was conducted by
women section of National Fisheries
Solidarity Movement to empower the women headed families providing tools,
machines and animals. National Fisheries Solidarity Movement assisted to the
women headed families to develop their economic background in Batticaloa, Mannar and Trincomalee
districts. National Fisheries Solidarity
Movement gave a new stream hoppers machine to A.G. Chiththrani. Because of
that, she is able to make more stream hoppers than before. Although she made
only three stream hoppers by using old machine now she can make more than 15
stream hoppers at one time. That is a great advantage for her.
Although she had spent two
hours for three KGs now she spends only one hour for that purpose. She is able
to earn 9500 rupees per day and she has 435 rupees cost for preparations. She
gets 9500 rupees as net profit per day. On that way, she is able to earn 15,000 rupees per month.
She sells steam hoppers every
day of month without poya day and days, which she participates to the meetings.
Her children have married now. So, This new machine is very helpful to maintain her life because she is living
lonely.
She has mentioned about how her
life changed because of having the new stream hoppers machines from National
Fisheries Solidarity Movement.
